How to setup iCloud outgoing mail?

I actually have email working on my iPhone, iPad, and through the iCloud web portal, but I can't send email from my iMac (2010) running High Sierra. In the connection doctor I have the detail message "Connection to server succeeded; login not required." I can send through another SMTP server, but then my mail is sent to the recipients Junk mail. Any ideas of what the problem might be and how to fix it?

I wonder why it isn't "automatically added for iOS and OX Mail". It might not be the issue.

Let's look in one more place:

On your Mac: with mail program open, go to

Mail-Preferences- Accounts

Take screenshot of each window to look at Account Information and Server Settings - (here are my settings)

The message is "automatically added for iOS and OX Mail" when I check email address as @icloud.com, but not if I check with @mac.com or @me.com. Here are my Mail-Preferences - Accounts and Server Settings...

Note: Just to clarify, the rochester.r ... POP account works fine. It's just the iCloud SMTP server that has problems.

Do you mean you can sign into iCloud and use mail?

Are you trying to set it up with mail app on your Mac?

To set mail in Mail App on your Mac:

Here are server setting informations for iCloud:

Yes, I can sign into iCloud and send and receive email. I can also send and receive email on my iPhone and iPad. On my iMac, I can only receive email using the Apple Mail App. Yes, I'm trying to send mail via the mail app on my iMac running macOS High Sierra. For the SMTP server I get the message "Connection to server succeeded; login not required" in Connection Doctor under the Window menu for the mail app. For IMAP and a different SMTP server, the message reads "Connection and login to server succeeded." The AppleID email address is not an @icloud.com email address. Could this be the source of the problem?
