I just got an iPad and, for the first time, downloaded a movie from iTunes. It took maybe 15 minutes, which surprised me since I thought it would be instantaneous like a book. Looking at this forum, however, I get the sense that instantaneous was an unrealistic expectation. Is there such a thing as an "average" time for a movie download on iPad? Thanks.
There is no average time - it depends on the speed you ordered from your Internet provider and the kind of physical connection: dial-up / dsl / fibre.
15 minutes per 90 minutes video seems rather well imho

I signed up for Netflix and use the streaming movies. It's $7.99 a month and you can watch as many movies as you like which is a lot cheaper than $4.99 a movie from iTunes. You don't have to download the movie either. It starts streaming immediately.
