Can anybody explain Apple pricing ?

Hi,

iPhone 12 is $799

In France it's €909

FX rate today 1 USD = 0.850962 EUR

$799 therefore translates to €680

Can anyone explain the €229 markup I have to pay ???

Fully understand the Global fluctuations in currency but surely this is way, way of course.

Even if it was $1 to €1 it would be €799 so €909 is ridiculous.

Sadly deggie, there was no option for 'iPhone Global pricing' so I had to choose this category. Regarding VAT since you ask. In the UK VAT is at 20% and the iPhone 12 is at £799 i.e. a 1 to 1 ratio.... $799 = £799

In France the VAT is also 20% and yet the $799 = €909

Just to clarify, I have been an Apple shareholder for about 10 years and I think there products are the best. But I am trying to understand this huge markup and why it is applied in this instance.

Just as a further example:

A particular Apple watch 6 priced in the US at $899 is priced in France at €929

The iPhone 12 in the US priced at $799 is priced in France at €909

So, are local Taxes more for the Phone ?

Is there a different exchange rate for the Watch ?

There is no rhyme or reason to this pricing for the iPhone.

I've been watching this thread and while I get why you'd ask, the reality is we can't answer with any facts. Prices in the US don't include tax that much we know. But we users have no clue what other fees other countries pass along to manufacturers in any way shape or form. And discussing the difference in pricing around the world isn't a technical support question.

You should contact Apple directly as we can't help with pricing questions at all.
