need help with memory on macbook air

I've gone through instructed steps in system preferences to free up memory but it doesn't seem to have done anything. I only have 3.41 Gigs of memory on th man but I have almost 1 TB on iCloud. Tried to move photos to iCloud and to delete some large video files but it hasn't worked.
