Volume keys on apple keyboard not working on Windows 10

I want to point out that I'm using a PC and not a Mac. I recently purchased an apple keyboard with the numeric pad and connected via USB and everything works great, except for the F-Keys(they work normally for Windows 10). Is there anyway to make the volume/play/pause/brightness keys to work? I have already tried to install BootCamp with the necessary files and rebooted. Nothing has changed.


Please help me. Much Appreciated.

Windows 10 does not use 5.x.x drivers. It uses 6.x drivers. To get the correct drivers, you may need to user Brigadier (https://github.com/timsutton/brigadier) and use a 2015 or later model for the -m qualifier to get the correct drivers.

Basically, I followed the Youtube tutorials found online(pretty much all of the videos use the same method), but I guess it was about a 50/50 chance of working from the comments. I will try to be as thorough as possible, please bear with me.


I downloaded "BootCamp" directly from the apple support website. This is where I messed up, I didn't realize I had to download the specific file "BOOTCAMP 5.1.5722". Instead I downloaded the latest BootCamp available (version 5.1.5769). Then I extracted the 2 files "AppleKeyboardInstaller64.exe" and "BootCamp.msi" and placed them both in a folder, then ran command prompt under Admin. Inside of command prompt I changed directory to my folder with the 2 extracted files and then typed the following "msiexec /i BootCamp.msi" and then was prompted to reboot. After rebooting, it was supposed to work right away (without even opening the BootCamp control panel). Then, I tried to go to the BootCamp control panel but I wasn't given any options that looked remotely close to being helpful or a middle tab labelled "keyboard" which some people were given (if you are a mac user I believe?).


Then I re-watched the video and realized I downloaded the wrong BootCamp file. It was difficult to remove/uninstall BootCamp so I read in the comments to "use the Microsoft tool here to uninstall easily https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed ". I downloaded the program and uninstalled BootCamp. Then directly went to download the correct version, extracted the same 2 files above and switched them with the files already inside my folder. Then followed the same directions and then rebooted and nothing worked. And same thing as above, I didn't get three tabs labelled left to right, "Startup Disk", Keyboard", and "Power". my control panel only displays startup disk and power.


Please let me know if you need any other details and I apologize if this was a little long-winded. Just want to be as detailed as possible to find a solution. I appreciate you replying!

I'm not sure which one you meant, so I tried both.


If I right click "Brigadier" and click run with powershell, it briefly opens powershell and then it immediately closes. There is nothing I can do.


On the other hand, if I manually open powershell and run as admin, what do I do after? Do I type the stuff above?

brigadier -m iMac19,1?

Sorry about that, not sure why your response only showed up now, even though I refresh every so often.


I've no idea what an "-m qualifier" is haha. I understand your first two sentences and I understand that I need to use Brigadier in order to acquire the correct drivers instead of the "5.x.x drivers". But I have no idea how or what to download. I know of github, but I've never used it before.


If it's not too much trouble, can you give me some steps to follow in a simplified manner? I'm quite the novice! I apologize for leaving that out from my initial post. You've been very helpful! Much Appreciated!

I'm sorry, is there anyway you can make your explanation a bit more clear. I'm not even sure what file to download on the GitHub website link, it's very difficult to follow for someone who has never used GitHub before. You're instructions are a little too cryptic and hard to follow.


I by accident hit the "solved" button, but you basically already did, albeit a little difficult on the instructions part.


Please dumb down your answer for someone who isn't as tech savvy. You've been very helpful! Much Appreciated!

Windows PowerShell is like CMD, but a richer in functionality. To invoke PowerShell, if you right-click on the Windows icon, you should see a Windows PowerShell item. Click on it, and run it as Admin.

Brigadier is a tool to download the files you need.

What about my previous bootcamp files/drivers and the applekeyboardinstaller64, can I delete those? Or do I keep them?

You can delete the 5.x drivers.
