Regarding iPhone 12 Pro (purchased overseas)s’ 5G functionalities in the US

Hi there,

I was wondering whether I will be able to use an iPhone 12 Pro’s 5G functionality (both Sub6 and mmWave) in the US if I purchase the device in South Korea.

Thank you so much in advance!

Thanks for your reply, SravanKrA.

I think your answer helped me develop the right question to ask Apple in advance of my decision to purchase the new iPhone 12 Pro model in SK. I think what's critical to know/ask Apple is whether a certain iPhone 12 Pro model (you can check the model code here: https://www.apple.com/iphone/cellular/) I can get in a country (in my case it's SK) supports local cellular connectivity and 5G functionality in the US. I hope the contents of this thread benefits people who read it in the future.

Usually all iPhone models are world phones, so you can use them almost anywhere. Whether you are a GSM or CDMA network customer, you can roam internationally on GSM networks in over 200 countries or regions around the world. Availabilitys of LTE data varies in some countries or regions and depends on carrier support for certain LTE radio frequencies. Contact your wireless carrier for more information regarding international roaming policies and rates.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

I cannot find an answer to this question either. However, based on what I have read, you have to buy a 5g phone specific to a country or countries and that unlike GSM, if you buy a US 5g iphone, it won't work overseas on 5g, but it will work on GMS 4g. Apple does make a 5g phone that works in 200 countries, but apparently not also the US. I still have not figured out why this might be the case. 5g does not replace 4g but builds on it. Fact is, 5g connectivity is poor and be more easily blocked by a tree for example. Not so with 4g.
