Can you use the Apple watch series 6 with a iPhone SE

I have wanted an apple watch for a while now, and I am thinking of buying one soon. I have also been hoping to get my first iPhone next time I need a new phone, and i've been looking at the iPhone SE. However I think that some features in the apple watch need to paired with a phone to work, or at least work well. I was wondering if I could pair an iPhone SE with the new Apple watch series 6, and if I would be able to get all of the watches features by pairing it with said iPhone SE. I haven't had an apple watch or phone before, so I might be wrong about how it works, so if anyone knows the answers, I would greatly appreciate hearing them.
