When I attempt to download from Apple store, it tells me the download is unavailable and to try later.
After many attempts, no luck. Any suggestions re moving forward? Thanks
The El Capitan can't be downloaded. It's obsolete anyway.

No it has not. I own iPhones and an iPad. But never a MacBook before now.

Download it from Apple Support (bypasses the App Store).
