Can this possibly still be correct? Managing the library and playlists in Apple Music is incredibly inefficient. Why can we not delete songs from the library yet leave them on a playlist? The process of deleting hundreds of songs and then adding them back to the correct playlist one by one is exceptionally laborious.

Identify the song to delete in the library. Search playlists to find where it is. Then delete from library. Then search Apply Music. Next add the song to the appropriate playlist. Then move it to the correct place in the playlist. Repeat.

What am I missing? Is the intent of the service to be frustratingly tedious? Are we supposed to just give up on having a library and on playlists that have the music we want where we can browse it and find it easily? Because finding the music I want to listen to easily is a feature I want!!!

Unless you're using the Apple Music service a playlist is always a collection of objects that are in your library. You can add the same track to multiple lists, or none at all. If you add a track to a playlist from Finder/Explorer it gets added to the library. The Apple Music service lets you temporarily add playlists from that service to your library without adding the individual tracks to your iCloud Music Library, but this is a separate feature and not the normal behaviour for either Music or iTunes.
