So I was given a 1st gen iPad mini, which I did a factory reset on and upgraded to iOS 9.3.5
There are VERY few apps that will run on this old iPad, but I thought I could use it for at least Facetime calls. However - when calling other Facetime clients (on newer hardware) they can't answer my call successfully. And when they call me, my device does nothing at all.
Has apple somehow blacked older devices from using Facetime?

I also tried all those steps - this was all working fine a couple months ago - I don't use it that often.
I did find this article since I posted my original question, which seem to indicate that Apple created this problem:

karina184 - did you read the article? There is no fix. There's no steps to take. There's no workaround. Apple screwed us, plain and simple.
I’m so frustrated. During this pandemic I’ve been using the iPad mini with my special needs sister to talk with and check in on her. So now I have to buy a new one???? I’m so mad - I’m not working and really can’t afford it and neither can she.
I tried all those steps in the troubleshooting link and still cannot use FaceTime on my iPad mini 1st generation. I had been using it just fine up until a couple weeks ago.
