Connect an external webcam to the external monitor in clamshell mode

I've read about connecting an external webcam to a Mac in clamshell mode, but in my case I'm interested in doing so but connecting the camera to the external monitor and not to the Mac, cause no more ports available on the Macbook. Is this possible in any particular way? Does it depende on the compatibility of camera-monitor-Macboook or is it is impossible at all?
