Screen time says Instagram is always active

My screen time tracker has been saying that I’ve been actively on Instagram for the entire time starting yesterday afternoon. I’ve obviously not been actively scrolling for 12+ hours and I’ve closed the app a few hours ago but it is still saying I’m on it. Any idea why it’s doing this or how to fix it?

Hi there,

It sounds like the usage details in Screen Time don't appear to be correct, is that right? We'd love to look into this with you.

Just to clarify, is the issue only with Instagram? In other words, does the usage for other applications appear to be correct?

You mentioned that you closed Instagram; can you let us know more about how you closed that application? For example, did you switch apps using the App Switcher, or did you force close it using these steps? How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Also, to help us narrow this down further, can you confirm which iOS version your device is running at this time? Here's how to check: Find the software version on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

In the meantime, you can find some great information about Screen Time here: Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Thanks!

Thanks so much for following up with us.

Just to confirm, it sounds like Screen Time is showing the correct usage for Instagram after uninstalling and redownloading that application, is that right? If so, that's great!

We do also want to want to mention that there is a newer iOS version available at this time, which is iOS 14.1. We would suggest backing up and updating your device to the current version, to help keep it running as smoothly as possible.

If you'd like a reference, this page has some great information on backing up and updating: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Take care!

Yes, that sounds right.

I've managed to get it to stop, I tried a combination of uninstalling it (the usage monitor still said I was using it when it was uninstalled) and then restarting the phone.

The issue was only with Instagram, but the usage bars showed the time spent as both social and entertainment.

I did the force close in that guide.

It's an iPhone 11 running iOS14.0.1

Thanks!
