duplicates in phone contacts

Hi

My iPhone has duplicate entries for a lot (not all) of my contacts. My MacBook only has one entry per person, as does iCloud.

When I delete one of the duplicates on the iPhone, the entry on my MacBook disappears, and then the remaining entry on the iPhone disappears too, but the entry in iCloud remains, however, I can't edit it.

What is going on?

How can I tidy up the contacts on my iPhone without corrupting my Contacts?

Try -- If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts - Apple Support.

If you are using iCloud, then correcting the duplicates on one device will in essence correct it across all devices synced to iCloud. However, you may wish to -- Get Support.

Hi

This addresses the wrong problem. The duplicates are not on my MacBook, they are on my iPhone. This article is about correcting duplicates on my MacBook, so it isn't what I'm looking for.
