Is there a way to see the iPhone phots and video content in a finder window from where they can copied/moved/deleted without going anywhere near the photo app?
Use Image Capture. It's located in the Applications folder. You can select the photos and videos you want to download and put them anywhere you'd like, any existing folder or a new folder, on the hard drive.
