AOL security reset stops Mac Mail from working?

AOL has sent notices that Mac Mail access to AOL mail needs to be reset for their new security system. Their instructions were to delete the email account in Mac Mail and the add it back. I deleted the account and now I cannot get or sent email from that account. Running Connection Doctor shows I am not getting connected. Before the delete and re-add that email account it was working fine. Any suggestion appreciated. Thanks.

This entire AOL mail development sounds very user unfriendly. I stopped using AOL mail many years ago. One thing you can do is use webmail to access your AOL mail, no doubt that is not as convenient as the built in Mail app. But it will give you some more time to figure out how to make it work. Another option is to auto-forward all your AOL mail to another mail provider, there are many that don't make things so difficult, and basically transition away from AOL mail for the future.

I have two other email accounts on this computer. One an AOL and one not Aol. Both of these are working. I have not tried to change the other Aol account yet. This one was to be my test case. On another computer I have dropped and then added back an Aol email account in Mac Mail and it is working, even though it is an older Mac and OS.

I have also now read where you have to go the Special app password for macs with OS 10.13 or older. This one is 10.13 and the other one older than that. Tried setting up the app Password, and it will not set up. Tries to connect and will not connect.

Very confused now??
