Skip Backup in Finder when doing a Sync.

Every single time that I Sync my music in Finder it takes a backup first which takes forever.

I don't want to use iCloud so please don't tell me to use that.

And if there is no other option than iCloud please also tell me that so that I don't keep asking the same question over and over again

Your help is much appreciated.

Hey there. Thanks for your time, but you don’t understand the question. This is not about avoiding an automatic sync at all. It’s about avoiding the automatic backup — to the hard disk or iCloud — that currently has to happen, whether you like it or not, after you begin any kind of sink at all. It can be short, it can be long and it can be so long that you should just do it overnight and spare yourself the trouble – – but currently there is no way of skipping this part of the process like there used to be in iTunes. Hope that’s clear Since there seem to be a lot of people who are answering but are not actually reading the questions.

Hello naayyoub,

It sounds like you're looking to sync Music, but avoid the backup that takes place. during the process.

A back up will always be initiated when the option to 'manually manage music and videos' is unchecked. When checked that feature won't sync nor back up the device. Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer

Alternatively, you can use our Apple Music or iTunes Match features to sync Music across devices:

Subscribe to iTunes Match

Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music

Take care!

Hey again! I did read the question, I believe backing up data is just part of the syncing process, but if you didn’t want that to happen automatically, you can change the option I posted earlier.

You can, if you need to, disable iOS backups all together using Terminal, which I’ve done. I don’t recall for sure if it affected the syncing process, but think that function remained working okay.

There are other programs you can use as well, if you don’t like the way iTunes/Music operates anymore, although, if you’re like me, that can be a tedious process, and personally don’t have an issue with the backing up part.

In fact, (Unlike it used to be), now when you do a backup, it replaces the previous backup with the newer one, taking less space on your hard drive, (I believe unless you re name your phone, or reset the settings). Good luck.

Thank you so much for answering but let me show you the sequence of event and it's still not working or i am confused.

Below you can see that I checked the 'manually manage music and videos'

When I go to Music this is the screen shown

When I tick the "sync music into....." I get the following screen

And when I press the button "Remove & Sync" I get the following screen

And this is the screen I get when i press Apply and as you can see it is still taking a backup. Am i missing something? Please help

Your answer does not square with the OP's experience or with mine. I have always had the "manually manage" box checked (starting with whatever year it first appeared) and I get this **** automatic backup too now, and I always have!!!

Could you please find out the real answer to this problem? It would be very appreciated — there are many help threads all over the internet asking this same question!
