Widgets on MacBook Pro , Mac OS Catalina,

Apple Widgets were very useful ..."where have all the Widgets gone..."

I would use Widgets many times throughout the day, keeping track of time and weather for my family members in other parts of the World, and it was very neat being able too see the vitals of my MacBook Pro, such as CPU Temp, Battery Temp ... and keep a check of my stocks ... all with the push of a button.

If the Widgets could find their way back home, I would be most appreciative!

Welcome Charles!

"where have all the Widgets gone..."

"Long time passing..."

Good stuff. I hate to confess that I am old enough to remember when the Kingston Trio released that. 😳

Apple have been letting the Widgets die off for a long time. Once there were hundreds; now the majority are useless because their developers have let them languish. Like Yahoo. Their stock widget hasn't worked in several years.

Another Dashboard negative that was only whispered about once all the children were in bed: Many widgets were terrifying resource hogs. 🐷 You had to restart the computer to clear them.

Mojave was the last macOS to have Dashboard

However, I found a workaround. You can do some of the more useful functions of Dashboard by customizing your Notification pane's "Today" window:

I get the functions I most used in Widgets and don't have the resource-hogging of old. And it is easier to access because I can still see what I am working on.
