Fix for missing song titles (asterisks)

I ran into this problem in Apple Music on iOS and it took me forever to figure out how to fix, so I thought that I would post the solution in case someone else runs into this problem.

Above is a screenshot of Beastie Boys' "To The 5 Boroughs" album on Apple Music on my iphone. You'll notice that basically all the song info is missing and instead replaced by three asterisks. First, I have iTunes Match and this only happens on songs that are uploaded via Match (thanks Apple!!). To fix (you'll need your desktop Apple Music, the songs will be correct there):

  1. Go to the Album and select all the songs
  2. Right-click and select "Get Info"
  3. In the new Get Info window, Click/Check the box next to "Use work and movement"
  4. In the "Work" field that appears, delete anything in that box. It'll either show some asterisks (***) or it'll have a grey "Mixed". Either way, clear it out (hit delete).
  5. That'll cause a green check mark to appear to the right of the "work" and "Use work and movement" fields.
  6. Uncheck the "Use work and movement" field.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Now give it 10-20 seconds and everything should be peachy on your phone.

Pro Tip: If you have a lot of songs/albums like this (which I do...thanks Apple!), create a smart playlist where Work Contains *. Then I find it helpful to sort by Album.
