I’ve recently got my new ipad (7th gen) and when i go to storage, the bar is not color coded like it needs to be... it just expands and returns to its original shape, is there something wrong with it?? how do i get the color codes back?

Update to my prior post - 3 posts above this - Resolution found.
Problem description: iPhone/iPad's Storage Category bar is all grey! Deleting the Shortcuts App causes the iPhone/iPad storage's "Other System Data" to become Zero KB, and results the Storage Category bar to become confused and all grey color. Don't delete the Shortcuts App! Tested on various iOS 14.x and devices with same results (including iOS 14.5 and iPhone 12).
NOTE: After the erase procedure and the basic vanilla OS install (without any personalization), I deleted the Shortcuts App again (to test) and the bar became grey. This is a bug that is easily reproduceable.
I also have the same issue, perhaps it’ll be fixed before IOS 15 or something...
So in conclusion don’t delete the shortcut app! 😂

Very nice testing methods! Huge help! I had my issues solved once I updated but I won’t delete the shortcut app by mistake now and just throw it in the app drawer.

could i ask if doing an ios update can make the color indicators in the storage appear?
Yes as long as you don’t delete the shortcuts app. On iPhone you could just put it in the app drawer and soon iPad OS will have an App drawer also.

Hello there sorry for bad english. İ have same issue and i found reason for my iphone. İ have ios 14.3 when i wipe my phone everythings ok. But when i delete shortcuts app my storage have been gray.
I set up my phone again and again and I found out that the problem starts when i activate „Messages“ in ICloud.
