I've been hearing distortion (sounds like my speakers are damaged) for some time and finally figured out that it only happens when using iTunes. When I play back my files using a different player they sound perfect and the distortion is gone. How can I fix this in the Music app? I don't have sound enhancer or anything turned on. Any ideas?

Good work on isolating it down by testing other media players. Do you have any available updates for macOS or iTunes? Try using these pages for help with that:
Update to the latest version of iTunes
Also, try checking with both downloaded and streamed audio in iTunes, if you haven't tested both yet. You may also wish to try testing this in safe mode, as well as in a new user, to help isolate it down further:

Start up your Mac in safe mode
