Was working fine and failed halfway through a zoom call, screen went grey. On restart it gets over halfway through the process and then fails and either goes to grey screen or tries again to start. I cant get it into disc repair mode either. Does this sound like HD? Its near 10 years old.

Try restarting in Safe Mode and resetting the NVRAM. If those fail you could take it to your local Apple Authorized Service Provider, however I would not spend any money on it. It's time to replace the old girl, she has probably had her day.

If resetting the NVRAM doesn't help try to boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and run Disk First Aid on the drive. See what that reports.
If you can't boot into Recovery volume the disk is dead.

You will love the new one. Hope you got another 27", the 2020's have SSDs meaning it will be much much faster than your 2011.

You must have found some old stock. I hope you at least got one with a SSD. If you did not then I'd strongly recommend you look in Apple's refurbished store and buy one.
