Macbook Pro mid 2011 screen glitching

As of a few days my Macbook Pro mid 2011 started having screen glitches.

It started when i was using Illustrator, and it ended as soon as i closed the app. But now its gotten worse, where it sometimes happens when starting my laptop, and when it happens while im using the laptop, it just freezes and i have to manually hold the power button.

What could it be?

Could a reinstall of OSX fix this, or would it be my hardware breaking down?

I'm not able to screenshot it as my macbook freezes, although i am able to move my cursor sometimes (which also appears glitched), keyboard input also does nothing when its frozen.

That looks like an issue with the built-in Display Assembly.

Connect an external display to see if the same thing happens on the external. Enable mirroring to the external display to be certain. If it only occurs on the laptop's built-in display, then you know for sure the Display Assembly is bad.

I hate to break the news to you,KHL____, but it looks like a hardware problem to me. If you hold down the shift key while rebooting, you should be able to get into safe mode and see if the problem repeats. I’d also recommend doing a back up of your main hard drive as well which every Mac user should do regularly for peace of mind and safety. It is easy to set up and do, Requiring only an external hard drive with the same roof capacity as your MacBook Pro mid 2011, what is about 800 gigs. The graphics card in it is technically replaceable but it is a royal pain in the butt to do so. You might be better off looking for a newer MacBook Pro or a refurbished one somewhere.

Sorry to hear that. I think you’re right. Apart from trying to boot a disc recovery application from the built in dvd drive or the USB port, or trying Apple Recovery of some kind, hold down Apple (command)+R key on startup, or Internet Recovery ( option, apple+R held down on reboot) ya might be up the creek...... i guess you’ve tried the usual stuff-reset smc/pmu and zap pram first, yees,,right??? And you have already done a backup and backed up your stuff, yes right ??? Might be time 2 say goodbye to it.

I couldnt get it to recognise an HDMI cable. Thats been an issue for quite a while now, maybe 1/20 times it manages to connect. Once straight after i plugged in the HDMI (via mini displayport) cable my macbook glitched and froze, but im not sure if that was because i plugged it in during startup, or because of the HDMI haha
