Apple TV Casting

Apple TV app want to cast to Sony Smart TV. Is this possible? Have Chromecast but it doesn't help.

Apple’s protocol for TV Casting is called AirPlay, and it is not exchangeable with Chromecast for the most part.


Some Sony TVs support AirPlay as a licensed feature.

If your TV model isn’t listed, then you may add an AirPlay receiving device to your TV, by way of HDMI, to add this functionality. Currently you would need a not-too-old model Apple TV set-top box. Roku is said to be getting AirPlay as well in the coming months.

But if you had an Apple TV box or a Roku (or Fire TV) streaming device, then you could have the Apple TV app on that, and wouldn’t need casting for this.
