macbook air 2020 HUUUGE problem with video conferencing

I have new MBA 2020 with i5 processor, 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM. The computer seems quick and fairly smooth, but when I run any video conferencing apps like Skype, Zoom, Teams or WebEx, the fans kick in and start spinning like crazy, being very loud. Also the CPU is overwhelmed and it seems like I have trouble with connection to the internet even when I am on a cable (ETH via USB-C hub). I am reading more complaints about the fans running loud and CPU being over 100% when video conferencing.

Is Apple aware of this issue? In this time when many people work from home and companies live with and through video conferencing on a daily basis, it seems almost impossible that somebody would sell notebook as expensive as this one that cannot effectively allow users run video conferencing apps!!!!

Apple, will you fix this or should I return or sell the computer????

i understand, but

video conferencing in 2020 is not the same as previous years.

zoom etc are overwhelmed with data and that effects our beloved MacBooks airs

i have a Dell XPS i never use anymore that can perform great with video

they use a teflon something that cools the laptop, that is carbon fibre.

others who have the same dell are suffering from video conferencing as well this summer

therefore this might be software and host problem as well as a MacBook air problem too.

Thank you for the feedback. You are right, very frustrating. I actually decided couple days ago to write an email to Tim Cook about this issue and disappointment asking him to give some hint whether we could expect a fix or not. I doubt he will answer, but who knows.

BTW, I cannot return the computer anymore, so I would also have to try to sell it. It should be possible without any issue, but of course I would lose money.

Thank you for suggesting a work-around, but it does not change the fact that my 2012 Macbook Air with 4GB of RAM has no issue running these video conferencing apps and presentations and videos and Office documents etc and the new 16 GB RAM cannot do it. For my use I cannot have every other app closed as I switch between apps, I have to open docs and presentations.

these MacBook airs are nice, portable and integrate with out other products seamlessly

they are just not the best for video confining, as many computer reviews stated all this year.

some writers claim there are too many processors crammed into a small space, while some wrote the material  uses for our MacBooks produce heat up to 100ºF when fully running.

This is why there are "Pro" models that can pack a better punch.

the MacBook air you have is still a great laptop just not designed for HEAVY video conferencing.

perhaps the new ARM processor will remedy this problem.

Thank you for the feedback. However, I have been using Macs since 2004 and my last three notebooks wee Airs and this one is with the biggest RAM and supposedly the fastest CPU and absolutely worst video conferencing performance. My previous two were both 5 years old when I let them go and they both were superb for Video conferencing. My son uses the older one from 2012 and studies at university and has remote classes all the time (Skype, Zoom, Teams, ...) and has no problem!!!! I, on the other hand, cannot have one Skype call with video without hot hot computer and loud fans ... I really do not think that I should buy Pro just to be able to use something I was able to use until now on older computers without any issue. And if that should be the case then it should be well NOTED and WARNED about on Apple's website that this computer is not for student or business or even family use.

If you can still return it - then do it. I've had the same problem with mine. Started a new job and I need to do video demos - but Mac locks up ALL the time. I even had a ethernet added to my home office to avoid WIFI issues - using Cat 6-25 cable. MacBook Air 13, 1.1 GHz, Core i5, 500 GB SSD, and 16 RAM. Using Cat-6

Video has crashed using Zoom, Google Meet-up and Teams. Everything freezes and then my entire machine is locked and I have to reboot the entire machine. I called Apple and they said it was probably Zoom. Fan is very loud and runs all the time, even when the Activity Monitor is registering little CPU usage.

I scoured the net, changed Firewall settings. Closed out of every program I could when I was going to be on video call - and STILL had problems.

Now that I finally decided to return it, I'm past the time and can't return it. Might try to sell it.

I, also have an older Mac (2015, i5) and it hasn't had any issues running Zoom or Google Meet. So frustrating!!

I hope they can figure this out as I continue to read so many others having same problem. I 100% agree with

I would have purchased an external drive to add memory and keep using my old mac is I had known the new one was going to give me so many problems.
