I can't open old Logic files (ranging from 2009 - 2015)
I have an Archive of old Logic projects that I'm trying to open in Logic Pro X on a 2019 Macbook Pro running Catalina.
I have three different behaviors, and things are not consistent:
For .logic files
- Successful - I get the prompt to save the older Logic files in the new Logic format. I choose to save as a Package and I select all file types for the project and Logic Pro X creates and opens the new project with all content represented as part of the project. I can see Logic Pro X showing a status of moving files to the new project.
- Unsuccessful - I get the prompt to save the older Logic files in the new Logic format. I choose to save as a Package and I select all file types for the project and Logic Pro X creates and opens the new project but it's an empty project (e.g. audio files, software instruments, etc.). For these examples, I confirmed that there are audio files and/or other file types contained in the older Logic project folder.
When it's unsuccessful, it's a mixed bag of situations:
- Sometimes I'll see the status of moving files and then it opens a project with tracks but no content in the tracks
- Sometimes I'll see no status of moving files and then it opens a project with no new tracks and simply prompts me to create a new track
This includes my own projects and even the sample projects originally included with Logic like those from The Roots, Shiny Toy Guns, etc.
For .logicx files
- I get a mixed bag of being able to open some of the files correctly but then many present me with an error message saying, "The file couldn’t be opened because it isn’t in the correct format. The file may be corrupted, truncated or in an unexpected format."
I can't seem to figure out the cause of this behavior.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
