iMessage randomly reordered and split sent/received texts

Hello,

I’m sorry this is kind of hard to explain but over the last month or so, my iMessage conversations have randomly been reordering themselves to where the sent messages are separated from the received messages.

I have taken screen shots that may better explain what’s happening. But as you can see all of the sent (blue) messages moved to the bottom of the thread and the received (grey) messages moved to the top. Completely throwing the whole conversation off. Any input or advice regarding this will be extremely appreciated !

Thanks for replying back. It sounds like you've only noticed the issue with one contact thread, and it seems to happen intermittently and is resolved by closing the Messages app or scrolling, correct?

Since you're not using Messages in iCloud, you could try making a full backup of your device and then deleting the thread in question as a test. Here's how to back up: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Then, try deleting the thread in question and see if it happens again after re-creating it. Having a backup will ensure you're able to restore the thread after testing: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Keep us posted. This will help determine if the issue could be with the specific thread.

Thanks for the post! As we understand it, you're seeing that your sent and received messages are out of order. That would definitely make it difficult to keep track of a conversation, and we'll be happy to assist.

To narrow this down, have you found this issue happens with all contact threads, or a specific thread?

Does it ever return to normal? For example, does it help if you Restart your iPhone?

Do you use Messages in iCloud? Keep all your messages in iCloud If you do, have you noticed if the same thing occurs on any of your other devices?

Let us know, and also please let us know your current iOS version. You can find that by tapping Settings > General > About.

To answer your questions.

This only happens with one contact, or at least i have only noticed it with one contact.
it returns to normal after i force close imessage or just scroll up a little bit
i do not use icloud for message

Sorry for the late reply, but it started happening again. This will occur randomly about once a week or every few weeks and then it fixes itself to the correct order almost immediately I just upgraded to an iphone 12 and it started happening on that as well!

I am just so confused and also a bit concerned as to why this keeps happening.
