AirPods cause echo for the person I am talking to

Brand new AirPod pros here. Love them, BUT, many times when I call people or they call me I’m being told the person I’m talking to hears a significant echo on the phone call. If I switch to just iPhone or speaker phone the echo problem goes away. I have tried forgetting the device and repairing it, but same echo problem exists. It seems to happen most when I’m already listening to music and then answer.

Hello detwiljp,

We understand that there's an echo on the receiving end of your phone calls when using your AirPods Pro. Does this happen with both AirPods in or are you only using one? Do you have Active Noise Cancellation or Transparency Mode enabled? You can check this Settings > BlueTooth > AirPods. If you record a voice memo, do you notice the echo?

Enjoy your day!

Ok officially tried the voice memo thing after a call where I got complaints of an echo. No echo in the voicemail. However when I was on the line every time I switched to speaker phone instead of the AirPod pros the echo went away. They also complained I sounded far away. I feel like there is something wrong with the AirPod software.

Ok I reset the AirPods and I’m still having the same problem. I also noticed a new problem now. Sometimes I’ll be playing music and then I’ll pause the music using the button in the AirPods for a moment. Then when I go to start the music again using the same button the music starts playing but no sound comes through the AirPods. I have to disconnect and reconnect the AirPods and manually press play on my iPhone for them to work again. It’s super frustrating.......

these things work so seamlessly in so many ways but I’ve been experiencing a slew of super annoying problems as well since I bought them.... I’m becoming more dissatisfied the longer I use them....

So no other ideas here? This is just the way they are supposed to work. The below issue is very persistent now. Almost expected.
