Hey there! I’ve seen this after the update as well, I think HP drivers are out of date and need to be updated to work. Here’s what worked:

First, if updating the software manually doesn’t work:

Open Finder, on the top menu hit Go > Computer > Macintosh HD (Usually) > Library > Printers.

Save (If you need to, and Delete the HP folder from there, (You’ll notice when clicking “Show in Finder” when you get the errors, these are where the files are, in this case old, outdated drivers and files).

Once deleted, open System Preferences > Printers and Scanners.

Right click (or Control click) select “Reset Printing System”, (This will delete any existing Printers and Scanners).

Once done:

If USB Printer, dis connect/re connect, you may see the option to “Install” the new HP software.

If a wireless “AirPrinter”, just hit the “+” sign to re-add the printer and select “Add”.

Do a test print to make sure it’s working again!

This is Gatekeeper, Mac’s security doing its job, most likely if you’re getting that error message, it’s a good thing to remove the older software.

Hope it all goes well!

This is unacceptable.

I have a HP Color Jet Pro MFP M477FNW as well for my office. This is not a cheap printer and I expected it to work at least two to four years. Going out and buying a new printer, is easier said then done. With parents working from home and children being home schooled having a family printer/scanner is essential. Apple and Hp need to get together and fix this issue. I don't care who does it, no one at this time can afford to just shell out 1,000's of dollars for new equipment, let alone find equipment becasue of Covid...Please handle as quickly as possible.

My printer is a fantastic but ancient laser printer HP 1200. They no longer have software on the HP site for it as far as I can tell so I am loathe to remove it. I did however get it to work when it is plugged into my MacBook by adding a second version of it as a generic but I can't find a way to get it to work when it is plugged in to my Time Capsule. That allowed my wife to use it from her office elsewhere in the house. AirPrint is not an option on this 20 year old printer. Any suggestions?

Doesn't work for LaserJet 1200: HP LaserJet 1200 Printer series. This is what HP says:

We were unable to find drivers for your product.

The Apple update to Catalina didn't help either.

So far only plugging into MacBook and using generic driver works--which means the printer can no longer be accessed from other computers in the house since the TimeCapsule connect is kaput.

Ok--so I've downloaded the drivers, trashed all the existing files in printers and scanners then added a new ( my old hp)printer--hoooray--I can now print......

but but but I am still getting the malware notifications on each occasion I press print. I cancel these, locate them in finder and send them to bin--but they keep appearing on each occasion I press print.....how do i get rid of the darned things?

Was thinking of buying an nice neat Canon currently on offer ....but suddenly it is out of stock....(wonder why)

Then to cap it all my hp black and white cartridge ran out ...luckily I have a spare.

Not a good monday morning

I have read every one of these helps to get my HPLaserJet 1320 printer working again.

I downloaded the updated 5.1 driver but my 10.15.07 Catalina iMac still says it's unable to locate my printer.

I have unplugged, plugged back in, restarted, re-everything. No success.

You seem to know a lot, can you possibly help me? Please?

I'm getting that same warning. I was on HP chat support for several hours this morning and then they disconnected me. I subscribe to their instant ink program and when that popup warning started coming up it was when I was checking my ink levels. HP had no clue what my problem was. I have an HP Envy 7155 purchased June 2019 - is that considered old? So frustrated with HP. (I am able to print - it just can't correctly check my ink levels).
