Microsoft Teams replaces FaceTime in video calls started from Contacts

Hello,

On my iPad Pro running iPadOS 14.1 I have installed FaceTime and Microsoft Teams. In Contacts the video symbol now labelled with Teams and I cannot make FaceTime calls from a contact any longer. On my iPhone running iOS 14.1, Teams is installed as well but in Contacts FaceTime is shown for video calls.

I have two questions:

  1. Is there a (hidden) setting which allows me to restore the FaceTime settings?
  2. Would it be possible to have both entries, FaceTime and Teams, available and choose when making a call from Contacts?

Thank you,

Christian

Hi there Christian Schulz,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like in your Contacts app you are seeing only an option to call people using Teams, but you want to know how to call people using FaceTime instead. If you touch and hold the Teams option in the contact, does it show a window giving you an option to select from Teams or FaceTime? Learn more about gestures on the iPhone here: Learn basic gestures to interact with iPhone.

You can also make FaceTime calls directly from the FaceTime app rather than from contacts. Learn more here: Use FaceTime with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

We hope this helps!

Hi Sterling,

Not sure what you mean by "setting up FaceTime" but it works fine and I can make and receive FaceTime calls.

After restarting the iPad, the behaviour has changed, indeed. Now, instead of the 'Video' option, initially only 'FaceTime' appears. 'Teams' becomes available after quitting Contacts (completely), having started Teams at least once and then opening Contacts again.

This behaviour is identical to the iPhone where the options 'Teams' and 'WhatsApp' only become available after having started Teams or WhatsApp at least once after a restart of the iPhone.

That's something I can remember but this behaviour is not really what I would expect and it is not easily discoverable either.

Thanks for your helpful suggestions,

Christian

Hi MoonJ,

Thanks for the response. 'Teams' is the only option and shown where normally the 'Video' option should appear. Touching and holding does not provide further options, only 'Teams' is listed in the pop-up. On my iPhone, 'Videos' is shown under the contact name and when I touch and hold the 'Video' option, it lists 'FaceTime', 'Teams' and 'WhatsApp'.

I am aware that I can initiate calls directly from FaceTime, but that's beside the point.

Do you have any further ideas?
