iphone 12 128G, not enough space to transfer from iphone XR 64G

I’m running into the same issue. My iPhone 11 Pro Max is using 95GB of its 256GB storage. The new phone is a 128GB iPhone 12 Pro Max. Both are running 14.1 and I’m getting the “not enough storage” error. Going to try updating both to 14.2 now. This is annoying...

Have a 12 Pro 256GB,

Phone to Phone transfer, Can’t transfer from iPhone X 158GB of 256GB total to iPhone 12 Pro 256GB.

Both have the 14.2 update...

Keep writing : "Transfer Failed. Not enough storage to copy data from other device"

If not fixed yet, there's a bug with Health app and Apple Watch. Best that Apple suggested so far is an iCloud backup > wipe the phone > restore the backup. Unpairing the watch may help as well, but no confirmed information about this.

I’m glad that worked for you SaraB817, but I think most of us in this thread were already on 14.2, and the problem persists.

I gave up and did an iCloud backup and restore. It worked, but it takes forever depending on how much data you’re pushing to/pulling from the cloud.

[SOLVED]: I was experiencing the very same issue, whereas my new iPhone 12 Pro Max- 128gb had no space after restoring from my iCloud back up. My previous phone is a iPhone XS Max- 256gb, and I have 2TB of iCloud storage but my new iPhone 12 Pro Max didn’t have enough space while transferring data. You need to Download and Install iOS 14.2.1 (latest iOS) in order to fix this bug issue. Here’s what to do:

1) On previous iPhone- back up phone via iCloud

2)(on new device) Reset iPhone 12 Pro: settings>general>reset> erase all content and settings. Confirm by entering passcode.

3) Once iphone restarts- go through setup process again for iPhone 12 Pro, but this time setup as NEW PHONE. Do not restore from a backup (you will do this later in the steps).

4) Breeze through the setup process and skip through Face ID setup, skip Apple Pay setup, skip Apple ID login and click “set up later”.

5) Once you are in the phone and have bypassed the setup process- Go to Settings>General> Software Update> Update iPhone 12 Pro Max to iOS 14.2.1 (latest iOS)

6) Install iOS 14.2.1. After installing the new iOS software- Reset device again.

7) settings>general>reset> erase all content and settings. Confirm by entering passcode.

8) Once iphone restarts- go through setup process again for iPhone 12 Pro, this time restore from iCloud backup and previous iphone.

9) Complete the setup process by actually completing everything, including Face ID, Apple Pay, and other settings.

10) After your iphone finishes restoring from iCloud, you will have available storage!! Go to settings to check under General> iPhone Storage. You will see that you’re photos and other large apps are now accurate and the bug issue is fixed.

This worked for me, and hopefully it helps you too!

Here’s the deal. It’s probably your health app. I found over 8 terabytes of date in my health app. You can’t delete it. So I just deleted all apps associated with health that kept my personal data and/or kept any sort of GPS. Those such as Running apps, cycling apps, food logs etc. My transfer was seamless after doing so.

I am going through same headache. Hope apple can fix this basic issue. Customer support person wasted my 2 hours and hung up without fixing this issue and I am fixing it myself. It's really frustrating when you cannot set-up new phone after buying 4 days back. really bad apple , please fix this basic issue to help your customers.

Just got my iPhone 12 mini with 64GB and tried to configure it using my iPhone 7 with 128GB. It says that I only use 38 GB on my old phone so I thought I should be fine. I have a huge cloud also, so most of my content is stored there. But my new phone didn’t except the transfer. Looking for help and support.

On your iPhone 12, open Settings ➔ General ➔ iPhone Storage : Here how much free space do you see? How much space is occupied?
