Apple Mail - Two sound everytime I receive an email

Hi, I can't understand why I always hear two notification sounds every time I receive a single email. I believe it has something to do with the fact that my account is a Gmail one, and I have both the inbox and the global one (is it called Archive in English? Sorry, can't remember at the moment), but I can't find something correlated in the preference. Can someone help me understand it? It is a bit annoying...

Let's see if we can get a better understanding of what's going on, before moving forward. You mentioned you have two email accounts associated with the Mail app. Are you getting emails at the same time for two different accounts when you notice this behavior with the sounds?

Also have you attempted any troubleshooting like restarting your Mac to see if the issue persists?

Log out, sleep, restart, or shut down your Mac

Yes, I have 2 (3 actually, one is disabled most of the time) accounts on Mail but I receive emails just on one of them.
This thing goes on since years now, the Mac has been restarted hundreds of times (with deeper reset too, like PRAM & Co), with at least 3 major OS updates.

It simply seems to notify the email twice, I don't know why. I think it could be related with the folder that mail monitors to notify an incoming email: It does of course ignore folders, but I don't know if it does ignore all of them except the inbox. Couldn't it monitor two folders at once? Like Inbox and Archive, where actually a copy of every single email exist (I am referring partly to your idea of a second email).

I'm trying to replicate the problem with a new user, but for some reason I hear no sounds at all, even the volume up and down does not make sounds. I don't understand because if I open a YouTube page I can hear the audio, and if I try to change the notification sound from the Mail preferences I can hear it... I really don't understand why my MacBook does behave like this when it comes to audio.

Hey there Stefano Zicari,

Thanks for your prompt reply. We want to continue to isolate the issue with your Mail app notifications.

We'd like to see if the issue is system wide or maybe just user-based. As you said this issue has been persistent for an extended period of time, we may need to approach this different.

We'd like to see if you can test this notification issue with Mail in a new user account. You can create one by going to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Once in a new user, let's configure your Mail app and test if the behavior continues.

If so, let us know your findings. If the behavior doesn't continue, we'd like to then have you test your previous user in Safe Mode and let us know if you notice the same behavior.

Start up your Mac in safe mode
