depending on what package supports your printer, you may need this re-issued package instead:
HP supplied a new driver on Friday to fix the issue:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg
(Cut and paste that line to a browser search window, and it should start to download immediately. It is a 226MB package)
.

Update: HP Printer Software 5.1 should now be becoming available through Software Update to fix this issue.

Thank you, but unless I'm missing something, this is an old update (2017), which I have downloaded and installed on three separate occasions this morning in unsuccessful attempt to correct the problem. I'm downloading again now, but I am not optimistic. Am I missing something about the "newness" of the recommended update? Thank you again!
I completed the download and installation of the current 5.1 update. Results when I tried to print a document: no joy.
I get these messages on my print-job manager:
"Stopped - 'Filter' failed, 1 page"
and,
"One or more components of the HP printing software are corrupted or missing. The print job cannot be completed. To fix this situation, HP recommends reinstalling the print driver software."
?????
I May well be doing something incorrectly. I am inexpert at such tasks.
Thank you.
Mike
Did this, rebooted. Former errors went away. Now it says "Waiting for your printer to become available" when I try to print something. Also, to download the file I had to use Chrome because Safari failed with an error. I have Catalina 10.15.7.
My results were the same as pbone’s...BUT... I found the fix!!:
I bought a new printer (“HP Deskjet Plus 4155”) [at OfficeDepot, for $99.xx plus tax].
Anyone interested in a free Deskjet D4360 😊....
Thanks again to everyone who tried to help...sincerely appreciated!
Thank you! Since the problem exists on both of our macs and nothing I tried re drivers helped, I was thinking of buying a new printer. Now I know to await a fix. Thanks again.
I've also tried what the hp customer support site shows as an August 4, 2020, release of the same driver software...with the same results.
Thank you! I’ll give this a try.
