Do I remove SIM Card before trading in

Upgraded from iPhone 8 to 12 (Sprint). The directions on Apple website does not mention what to do with the SIM Card. My understanding is that it should be removed before trading in or selling. Is this correct?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

Remove from your old phone and place it into your new one.

Thanks for the reply. The new phone also came with an activated SIM card. But, I’ll definitely remove it.
