USB Accessories Disabled

Hi,

Without any USB devices plugged in, I get this error message "USB Accessories Disabled - Unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices."

I have tried reset the SMC and NVRAM but I am not quite sure if it has worked.

The message persists and I cannot get rid of it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for responding.

I ran the diagnostics and no problems were found. So I proceeded to reset both SMC and NVRAM multiple times. Finally, I restarted in safe mode. Unfortunately, it didn't fix the issue. Nothing is connected to either USB ports but the message still appears.

Finder does not recognise a USB drive when inserted into one of the USB ports. However, both USB ports are able to charge devices.

Is there a specific way to enable the USB port again?

The SMC reset— no harm in doing this no less then 3 time in a row.

same for NVRAM.

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and test. Reboot and test as caches get rebuilt.

If no resolve you can try running the Diagnostic/AHT http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
