Storage full leading to various issues.

I am using an iphone XS 64 GB. last night it showed me that the storage is full. So i deleted a few apps which freed me a 4-5 GB of space. But I am facing a lot of issues:

  1. even after deleting and freeing up space, appliations like whatsapp and instagram wouldnt open stating that the storage is full. Might be the case with other applications too. but i havent been able to check all the applications
  2. tried deleting some photos and videos but I am unable to do so. after selecting the delete function, the images and videos reappears.
  3. the icloud backup is not happening. Last backup in place is 1 week back. The new backup when tried is getting failed.
  4. when i opened my phone dialer, i am unable to see the phone contacts.

I am not sure why this is happening. I am hesitant doing the soft reset thing as I have read that the phone might get stuck into boot loop.

Please advise best possible solution without any data loss.

Regards

Gautam

Welcome, gautamlunia, to Apple Support Communities!

You, like many others, are running out of local storage on your device (the 64 GB on your iPhone).

You can use a computer (PC or Mac using iTunes, or Mac running Catalina using the Finder) to help backup without needing as much Free device storage as needed for an iCloud backup.

A good guide on helping with this issue is Clear Other storage on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support, since, for many (most?) people, the “Other” storage category tends to be a major culprit.
