Not Receive Calls on Series 6 Consistently

I have a series 6 Apple Watch (Cellular) and an iPhone 12 Pro (although I had the same issue with my 11 Pro). When I get out of my car (where I do use Carplay), my watch won't receive phone calls. I can make phone calls and receive texts but cannot receive calls.

If I turn off my phone, my watch still won't get calls and anyone calling me will immediately go to voicemail.

If I reboot my watch, it makes no difference. If I make a completed call with my watch, then I'm able to start receiving calls on the watch. If I reboot my phone, then I can also start receiving calls.

I'd rather not have to reboot my phone everytime I get out of my car to be able to receive calls on my watch.

Has anyone run into this problem or have a solution?

Here's an update:

I went to the BMW site and checked to see if they had an update for iDrive software and they did! I downloaded it and installed it. So far so good. I'm knocking on wood....I shut off my car then went inside my house and called my mobile.... lo and behold, my watch rang! I did this twice and it worked both times.

I'm hoping the BMW update fixed the issue.

Just go to BMW.com/update and enter your VIN number and their system will tell you if an update is available.

I have a 2018 X5.

If you don't mind, let me know if this works for you!

Okay, here's what I have so far. I've been doing some troubleshooting and have found, what I think, could be (at least) part of the issue.

If I get into my car and carplay starts up and I listen to some music or maybe a podcast or do whatever, then when I exit my car and and go into my work or house or wherever... then yes, the watch won't ring when I get a call (although the phone does ring).

Now, I have a BMW icon on my carplay home screen (the icon on the carplay home page just takes me back to my BMW home screen)... before I exit my vehicle or shut off my car... if I'm been actively using carplay, if I go back to the carplay homescreen, touch the BMW icon (which takes me to my BMW home screen), then choose a different BMW screen, such as pressing my map button, THEN shut off my car and exit.... my watch will ring when I get a phone call.

I'm not 100% sure, but I did do this several times and it seemed to work. Likewise if I didn't go through those steps prior to shutting my car off, my watch wouldn't ring. If I started my car and did those steps I mentioned, my watch would start ringing again upon shutting off car and exiting.

It makes me think the iPhone is getting hung up on which app or carplay item (or screen) was last used when the car was shut off and not allowing the watch to ring.

If anyone else can try this out on their car, much appreciation!

Interesting. I have a BMW as well. I wonder it's only an issue with Beemers.

I've tried everything... turning on/off DND, Bluetooth, Carplay, Airplane Mode, etc.... the only thing I find that works is rebooting phone.

I just bluetooth my phone without using Carplay, then there are no issues.

There are only 2 things I haven't tried yet. 1) Having my phone to NOT auto join my wifi and 2) Plugging the phone in via usb and getting away from the wireless.

carplay on bmw will not work via usb, it is always wireless even if you plug phone in...

Can you open a case with apple support? You should have it with the new devices.

My tech support expired and I’m not sure that I’ll upgrade this year, too disappointed with apple (my macbook pro screen died during warranty and they rejected my claim saying I did it myself because there is a scratch on the screen).
