How delete a HP printer (shortcut?) icon from my Mac desktop?

I already have a printer icon in my dock. The printer shortcut (?) icon appeared when I dragged & dropped my printer icon from System Prefs, etc. to replace the large white question mark on the dock. I succeeded in doing that, but suddenly a printer icon popped up on the desktop. It's in a black square drawn around it with a small black arrow in the lower left corner. I don't know if its ok to try to delete it or what it means. (I had to delete my printer & reinstall because of the Apple-HP printer problem that started I think around Oct. 23, 2020). Google shows many of us have the problem. What does the black square with the little arrow mean?
