11" iPad Pro and Safari not capable of mirroring full screen

My old 9.7 iPad Pro - using Safari browser - transmits a full screen of whatever is being displayed in the safari window on both 40" and 55" TVs.

Using my new 11" iPad Pro, Safari is unable to reproduce/adjust the full screen window on the iPad onto either TV. I get rather wide black sidebars on the TVs. That is annoying at best. I have checked through all of the settings, but have not found anything that may help. There are no adjustment (screen display) settings on either TV.

We then tried his almost new 7th gen iPad and get the same black sidebars.

I wonder if that is working "as expected" or overlooked? Or if it is a software problem, a bug report may call it to their attention?

Hi babowa,

We understand you're running into some issues with your new iPad Pro not mirroring the display to your TV as expected, and we can get you pointed in the right direction. From what you're describing, it sounds like the aspect ratio on the TV needs to be adjusted. We have more details about it in the section, "Mirror your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" in Use AirPlay to stream video or mirror your device’s screen

Please let us know if this doesn't resolve the problem, and we'll continue to assist!

Take care.

Thank you, but it does not solve the problem.

  1. As I said, my 9.7” iPad Pro does not have that problem on the same two TVs. The TV screen works just fine with it and displays a Safari window full screen.
  2. Checking the TV settings, I have not seen aspect ratio settings on newer TVs. My options are normal (adjusts itself to full screen), zoom, and stretch. I do not believe that those would be appropriate.
  3. This only happens with Safari windows. My European TV apps display just fine as well.

since it works on older iPads, but not on newer ones with all of them running the same iOS version, I would guess that it is a feature done away with and possibly performing “as expected/designed”. I’d appreciate if you could send that over to the Engineers so they can take a look.

As an FYI, I am not using Airplay. I need to use the browser to access the MetOpera via Safari (all of my European TV access is through their apps), so I am using either a lightning to HDMI adapter (9.7 iPad) or a USB-C to HDMI adapter (11" iPad Pro) and an HDMI cable to connect the iPads to the TVs. We have no Apple TV and our (smart) TVs do not access the internet or Wifi by choice (privacy reasons).
