in Catalina, need to turn OFF trackpad click sound

go to your Mac settings, click on trackpad, go to point and click settings at the top, scroll all the way down to bottom and check the box called silent clicking. If this option isn't available, you can put the click on light. this will make it quieter. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204352

2014 doesn't have a force touch trackpad, only since 2015 I think, so your trackpad can't be made quieter

What year is the is the laptop. Mine has the configuration

what year is yours? my 2017 MacBook doesn't have the silent clicking box? not that I want to make it quieter

My 2015 MacBook has the silent clicking option.
