HBO Max- No Video with AirPlay

After installing the HBO Max app on my phone (iPhone 7, iOS 14.1), I've discovered that some, but not all, series will not play on my TV via AirPlay. Every HBO Max show I've tried plays correctly on my phone, but when I turn on screen mirroring, the video goes black, and only the audio plays on my TV (AppleTV 3rd gen). At first, it appeared to be only the series Raised By Wolves, but now I've found that season 2 of Search Party also has no video when mirroring. Season 3 of Search Party plays correctly with audio and video. To be clear, it's just the shows that have no video, the ads before the show starts play, then the video goes black when the ads end and the show starts. I haven't tried that many different shows, but so far, more don't work than do work. Now that I think about it, series that I sampled a few weeks ago when I first installed the app seem to work, while the ones that don't work are series/seasons I just recently downloaded (must download before playing) in the past few days.


I also have had no trouble with HBO Max in the browser on my computer (iMac). Everything I've tried so far plays correctly in the browser, though I've not tried screen mirroring from my Mac (it's nowhere near my TV).


Since screen mirroring works from my phone to my AppleTV for other apps and some videos in this app, I don't think the problem is with my phone or AppleTV. It looks like the HBO Max app is turning off the video-out signal when mirroring is turned on, much like the Netflix app used to do, but in this case, only for certain videos. HBO Max tech support was not much help, they suggested I try Apple tech support, so I was hoping I'm not the only one to encounter this problem.

I have a similar issue. Here is what I’ve experienced. 


When I mirror/Airplay my IOS device screens to Apple TV, I usually just get no video (only audio) but sometimes I receive the following error message:


Can’t Play Title

We’re having trouble playing this video. Please check your Internet connection or try again later. 


This issue occurs with both Wi-Fi and cellular. I can only use cellular at home because we live in the mountains - so no Wi-Fi, otherwise I would simply stream shows through Apple TV. 


This issue occurs when I try to mirror both my iPhone and iPad screens. 


This issue occurs with most if not all shows I’ve tried to watch on HBOMax.


This issue occurs with both streaming and downloaded shows


This issue also occurred when I was trying to mirror my screen using using an HDMI to Lightning cable adapter between my IOS devices and TV, so this seems to be a mirroring issue in general. 


I have a similar problem with Disney+ but no issues with Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube or others. HBO Max used to work fine for me for the first several months after it launched but a few months ago I started encountering these problems. Disney+ was sporadic in the beginning but now it doesn’t work at all for me.


Any ideas or insight? Thanks in advance.
