External display connection question

I have a thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter connecting my 2019 Macbook Pro to my older Thunderbolt display, but I can't get my Thunderbolt display to turn on. (It is plugged in and works with an older Macbook as I just checked that.) Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's a Thunderbolt display (Lightning Bolt icon on the Thunderbolt plug, no USB plug), not the similar looking LED display (Mini DisplayPort, USB, MagSafe plugs)? Mini DisplayPort will fit Thunderboit 2 but will not work through a Thunderbolt adapter.

You need a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort Adapter.

You also need a USB-C to USB-A adapter for the display's USB plug.

This uses two of the MacBook Pro's USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports, but the UPTAB has an extra USB-C (charger only) port that can be used to power the computer.

You can get power from the display's MagSafe plug with a USB-C adapter.

This won't provide as much power as the normal charger, but may be sufficient.

If it's been less than 14 days, you can return the Apple Thunderbolt adapter for a refund,
