Apple Numbers: Why can't I hide columns across merged cells?
I can do this with with Windows Excel. I see this has been an issue for more than 10 years. I think it is time to be fixed!
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Hi celderkin,
"Why" questions are beyond the scope of this user-to-user community. We're users of the software and hardware discussed in these forums, and are able to answer questions regarding 'How to" work with the software/hardware as it currently exists.
Apple's participation, and that of it's employees in these communities is minimal—monitoring for adherence to the terms of use, posts by the 'community specialists' who provide responses—mostly references and links to existing knowledge base articles—to questions tht have not received a community response within about 24 hours of posting, and Apple Recommends markings of posts which have solved an issue, but have not been marked solved by the original poster.
If you see this 'issue' as an issue, and want to see a specific change, send your message directly to Apple via the feedback channel. In Numbers, go to the Numbers menu, choose Provide Numbers Feedback, and make a feature enhancement request.
In the meantime, if this is a major issue, you might try the open source (and free) LibreOffice, which does support hiding columns containing merged cells…
Or hiding either one of the columns containing a merged cell.
Regards,
Barry

Thank you for the suggestions. I was unaware of the feedback feature.
