Problems with iCloud Backup on iPhone X running iOS 14.0.1

I'm having problems running iCloud Backup on my iPhone X running iOS 14.0.1 - a backup has not been completed in the last 3 weeks. When I click "Back Up Now" on the Settings > iCloud > Backup page, I receive an error message stating simply that "The last backup could not be completed."

I have iCloud Backups enabled; I have tried turning iCloud Backup off and then back on, with no luck. I have tried restarting the iPhone, and that did not work either. I pay the extra dollar for 50GB of iCloud Storage, and have plenty of storage space available (6.7 GB of 50 GB available; next backup size roughly 8.44 GB). I back up everything, including my Photo Library.

I have an iPad Mini 5 running iOS 14 as well, configured the same way, and it is backing up with no problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what could be causing this error, and how to resolve it?

I finally contacted Apple Support, and got iCloud backup working again. Here's what they had me do:

* Log out of iCloud on the iPhone, and log back in

* Remove the previous iPhone backup (I had to do this from another Apple device)

* Turn iCloud Backup back on

* Click Back Up Now

Once I took these steps, I was able to get iCloud Backup to work again.

If you have tried all of the suggestions in the support article that zinacef posted above, and tried my suggestions, try a forced restart

  • iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold both the Top (or Side) button and the Volume Down buttons until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons until you see the Apple logo.

If that still fails, try rebooting your router. It might not help, but it can’t hurt. If that still fails, use the contact support link in the upper right corner of the page and ask Apple for help.

If you only have 6.7GB of storage available and the next backup size is 8.44GB, you don’t have enough storage to complete the backup.
