iMovie download for Mojave OS

Hi, maybe I'm late the discussion here, but I'm trying to obtain a download of iMovie to use with Mojave. For some reason I don't have a copy in my app folder, and this is a new (refurbished) MacBook Air 2019, so I don't know why it didn't come with the computer. Any links to where I can download it? I've tried downloading iMovie9 to no avail.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.14

So, I phoned apple and they said that I MUST upgrade to Catalina to receive iMovie, which I don't want to do, I bought the computer refurbished in order to HAVE Mojave to use my other apps on. So angry at Apple, I can't believe that they DO NOT have access to an earlier iMovie than the newest one! Seems like BS to me. Grrrr. I am so disappointed with Apple these days, it's not what it used to be. Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave!!

And yes, I looked on "purchases" and have the iMovie listed from 2012.

If it is iMovie 9 that is in your Purchased folder unfortunately iMovie 9 does not function on Mojave-- at least not on mine. Still, you might try downloading it and then seeing if you can upgrade to iMovie 10 from iMovie 9.0.9. I don't think that there is a path for an upgrade from iMovie 9 using normal channels, but worth a try.

Also, take a look at this thread that provides a way to get iMovie 10 once you have iMovie 9. Pay particular attention to the post by spectre_ghost that provided this solution:

The refurbished Mac that you purchased should function exactly the same as a " brand new " model.

This is the Promise that Apple make in the UK, but must be similar in other countries.

There may be other Applications that you have yet to discover are missing, so it would be wise to get back to Apple with this issue.

Is it possible to take it back to the Apple Store where you purchased it?

If not then start off by clicking " Contact Support" at top right of this page and navigate through in order for them to call you back by phone ( this is an option that should be presented to you).

Much better to talk the issue over rather than emails.

It looks like the "like new" promise refers only to a promise that the refurbished product "meets the same functional standards as new Apple products". It is talking about the hardware. I don't see any language promising that the refurbished product will come loaded with the same software as a new product.

However, I agree that a call to Apple Support might resolve this in the original poster's favor. I think it could persuasively be argued that a purchaser of a refurbished machine should be able to at least download the same software that would come with a new machine.

You are probably totally xxxsed off with this by now, but bare with and try this. Stick with it.

You said

"And yes, I looked on "purchases" and have the iMovie listed from 2012. "

Does it say something like " Get" or ' Download" or" Instsall"?

Go ahead and Get or Download or Install.

Hopefully this will install iMovie ver 9 that you already know will not run on your Mojave OS, but no matter.

If you do now get iMovie ver 9 downloaded, this may enable you to download iMovie 10 , so now go to the App Store, but NOT your purchased page, but the search page for iMovie and now see if you can get iMovie 10.

You may (?) get a message that says you need blah, blah blah to get the latest iMovie but you can get a version that is compatible with your version of OS. Go ahead and download.
