Charging

I was unaware that they were switching to USB-C for charging and therfore ordered the appropriate wall adapter, since its not included (by the way, thats dumb...the wall block was always included). Until I get it, am I able to use the old USB lightning cord from previous versions? I’ve read that using off brand equip can sometimes fry your electronics...? I’m not tech savvy enough to know how legit that is.
