Can I use iCloud like an external drive? I don't want it to make local copies on my Mac. My storage under About this Mac swings back and forth from 250 GB free to 11KB free. I had moved all my photos, documents, etc to iCloud Drive to free up my Mac, but it keeps filling up. A CS rep from Apple told me that there is no way to stop my Mac from making a local copy of all the contents of iCloud drive. Surely there's a way...I hope?

iCloud I was excited to see Apple One. I've subscribed and figured I'd have a reason to use iCloud. Forget it. iCloud is awful to use. I've used OneDrive for years and prefer that. I don't want to store files on my phone or tablet and prefer going into the cloud when I want to stream, or add it to my device at will. iCloud is terribly frustrating and confusing to navigate. I don't know where the files are and if I delete them from my iOS device - they're gone from the cloud. It doesn't make sense to have something so user-unfriendly. I used to think I was missing something. I've realize after an hour that I'm not.
