Do I have to pay to get my podcast up. This system is awful to get listed

Every other listing was straight forward... Why does Apple make everything so hard now?

You don't have to pay anything. In order to be able to submit your podcast you need to follow this procedure:

  1. Log into the iTunes/Apple Music store (on Windows, download iTunes).
  2. Register a payment method there. You won't be charged (though a temporary charge may appear on your card to verify it, but it won't be actually withdrawn) and you don't need to purchase anything.
  3. Authorise your computer for iTunes/Apple Music purchases (menu Account>Authorisations>Authorise this computer).

Now follow the procedure detailed here:

This process is necessary so that you can be securely identified as the owner of the podcast, both so that you can be contacted if necessary, and to prevent others from having unauthorised access.

When you validate your feed in Podcasts Connect it will be checked for technical errors: there will be a delay (which could be up to two weeks but hopefully shorter) while Apple staff check the content to make sure you haven't breached any guidlines.
