Greetings lenar208,

We see that you're having a problem making and receiving calls with 1x listed along the status bar, and we understand wanting information on this. You've come to the right place for assistance with this.

With your iPhone showing 1x, this would mean that the reception may be lower than normal but you may be able to access the network. We'd recommend checking out the following resource for more information on this:

Status icons and symbols on your iPhone

We hope this helps to answer your question.

Cheers!

Carriers upgrade their networks every few years for better services... it could be faster data speeds, more commonly used standards, or other reasons. You've probably seen 5G currently being deployed. 4G is aka LTE. Before that was 3G. Way in the beginning is 1X on the Verizon network, for example. The 1X means you can't get a better signal for the 3G and LTE networks. 1X may give you voice service if your phone is capable of getting enough of a signal. It's usually good only for a very short text SMS. The Verizon 1X network is eventually going away as they've indicated.

Really the only solution is to move to an area with better coverage. Once a new network is built and people move to them - like almost all have moved to LTE, they start shutting down the old network. This takes years and is why 1X is still around for now. That and 3G will eventually go away. 15 years from now people will say - what does that LTE icon mean... I can't make or receive calls. Good luck!
