iOS 14 camera quality, unrealistic images and white balance

Prior to the iOS 14 update, I have used iPhone XS max and currently, I use iPhone 11pro. Post update with ios14 the quality of pictures captured by both the devices are simply pathetic, they are blurry, over exposed, lacks sharpness and seldom captures the details and the biggest deficiency that really enrages me is the over processing of the colours of the pictures, iPhone doesn’t capture the actual scene. If I wanted a over-processed unrealistic image I would go with Samsung they do a better job. And what that really really upsets me is I can’t downgrade to iOS 13 either. Why apple ? Why would go and ruin something that was good !!!! And I am not going to start on bugs and interface of iOS 14. One thing that’s good is the night mode.

Does anyone feel the same way/experience the issues after update to Ios14 ? Does anyone have a solution to the white balance problem of the camera? Any help would be appreciated.

This issue was happening before the 12 was released, but leads one to believe that the iOS 14 update had stuff in there to work with the 12's and not have (as many) issues but then completely borked other devices. Although a perfect example of some issues still occurring on the 12 would be the video that I linked above that Marques made about photo quality on different phones.

Well said! (Although I don't agree 100% on the Samsung over processing ;) but I still agree with the bigger picture here) This is an issue that I've been complaining about for a few months now and all I get on here is that I'm spreading misinformation and lies by saying that this is an issue. It's frustrating none the less considering Apple has yet to respond in regards to this issue that numerous people are bringing up. But I guess it's just easier to say "Oh talk to (insert app here) developers" than actually trying to pinpoint the issue with iOS 14.

I was happy I made the switch to iPhone earlier this year even with missing some functionality I had on my Android, but this software update is kind of making me regret making the switch now.

Agree !! Actually he did point out the exact prob. I don’t think apple cares anymore, they are just focusing on their revenue as evident by removing the chargers, EarPods and reducing the package size. I think this will be my last iPhone , I have to slowly exit this eco system.

On an off note another bug I noticed , airdrop is finicky, sometimes it doesnt work, sometimes my MacBook Pro doesn’t connect with my phone then I have to restart my iPhone. Same goes with my other devices.

when I used to use iPhone X, the airdrop used to work seamlessly, and the transfer speeds were incredible.

Thank you , I am glad it’s not just me ..

I have been a loyal apple user for almost 7 years now. Granted it’s going to be hard to get off apple ecosystem, however now I am considering Samsung S21ultra

And I am surprised that there is no hue and cry about this , neither can I find any related searches in google nor are any reviewers talking about this issue.

Even with the compromise of features (in comparison to android) The main reason we loved apple was because of reliability of the OS , it was smooth , lag free , and I don’t remember any app crashes prior to ios14 and best of all, it till adhered to the core principle of being able to access everything within 3 touches which steve jobs was adamant about.

now the UI is just lacks finesse it’s moving in the direction of android.

The least apple could do is either fix the bugs or provide the option to downgrade to a version that worked best.

It's definitely not just you, if you hop on social media (Twitter specifically) you'll see a lot of people talking about their camera quality since iOS 14 was released.

Agreed that it'll be tough to get off the Apple Ecosystem, even for me with less than a year of being on it will be tough for me as well. But the way this iOS release has gone has definitely shown me that things aren't the way that they once were with Apple. Yes I'm just now an iOS user, but have been a long time MBP user. And I appreciated what iOS was although it just wasn't for me, and it seems like it's still not going to be for me unless these issues are actually addressed. Even here on the forums I was trying to gather information from everybody in terms of what device they had, what was the native camera app looking like, etc. . . and just getting horrible responses. Not a good experience to say the least.

As you mentioned, the app crashes since iOS 14 have been wild, and I was going to mention it in my last reply but decided not to. Even on Android with some not so popular apps, I've never experienced this many app crashes as I have after the update. And looking on the Dev Forums, it looks like there's a lot of devs that are getting frustrated because they're using the latest software version to build their code to and still having these issues.

Some of the new features Apple has provided I think they could have done a better job with, but that's for another day. LOL

Overall like you mentioned I'm not seeing this discussed anywhere but here and Twitter and not by any influencers or reviewers. And I think it's really because it might depend on the phone model as well as most might not look at or care about it because the next new thing is out iPhone 12 and they can just move onto that. I've wanted to reach out to some reviewers that I watch and provide them with links of all the people talking about the quality to see if they could maybe bring it up to their followers sometime. But I have a feeling it'll just get lost in all their other messages.

I'm at a loss here though because it doesn't seem like Apple will ever fix the bugs or allow us to downgrade, but I've definitely been looking at the new Samsung devices so we'll see where I go from here.
