my keyboard light turns off when i look away

My backlighting for my keyboard turns off and on but not randomly. Whenever I look away from the screen it turns off, and instantly turns on when I look back at it. If i cover my camera then this does not happen, the light just stays on like usual. Is something going on? Or am I being paranoid?
